Elloy Martin delivers the type of Mexican street food to downtown Portlanders that satisfies their need for all cuisine born south of the border. He takes pride in making sure that his ingredients are fresh and locally sourced if possible. Patrons rave about the tacos and the burritos.
You might think that you can pretty much get Mexican street food anywhere, but that what makes this food special are the sauces and spices that Elloy Martin uses. The hot sauce has a special kick that takes burritos and quesadillas and anything else it's doused onto to the next level.
If you've never tried panuchos, youhave to try them at El Taco Yucateco. They're essentially unlike any other you've had before. A panucho is served open-faced like a taco. Elloy makes his panuchos by hand using a masa paste that he special orders to make them just right, shaping them like tortillas before frying them up, resulting in tortilla-like objects that are a bit puffy. They're then cut open and filled with black bean paste, cabbage, avocado, pickled and marinated onions, tomato, lettuce, and spicy chicken.
The resulting meal is to die for, and it's pretty cheap! It's the perfect treat when you want real food on the go without spending a ton of cash.
