It's pretty clear that potatoes needed a champion in recent years. They get a lot of bad press, especially when they're French fries. The Potato Champion truck started in 2008 at SE 12th and Hawthorne. It is the place to go for Portlanders when they're wandering around hungry for the world's tastiest starch late at night. The truck's team started off selling two things: their now-famous twice-fried fries with a few signature sauces, and poutine, the Canadian dish of French fries covered with cheese curds and gravy. As time went on, they expanded their menu to accommodate varying palates.
They're open from 11 AM until 1 AM, so you're covered if you leave a late-night movie with a huge appetite.
What is the food like? The delectable "PB&J" fries are irresistible and feature Potato Champion's signature fries topped with satay sauce and a deliciously smoky and sweet chipotle raspberry jam. Spice lovers will love burning up with the Chili Cheese Fries that are loaded with Tillamook cheddar cheese, signature beef chili, jalapenos, pepperoncini, onions, and sour cream. Have you ever had Pulled Pork Fries? You can here! The fries are covered with succulent, slow-cooked pork shoulder from Carlton Farms and served with BBQ sauce and bourbon honey mustard. Try out the special sauces for a unique flavor fix.
