<h1>Los Angeles: The Food Truck OG</h1>
Los Angeles is undoubtedly the hotbed of American pop culture and entertainment &mdash; and arguably the nation&rsquo;s most trendsetting city. From movies to TV, music, fashion, food and just about anything else that falls under the category of &ldquo;new&rdquo; or &ldquo;hip,&rdquo; chances are it started in L.A. So, we should feel no surprise that we have L.A. to thank for the booming American food truck scene! Many U.S. cities have had taco and ice cream trucks roaming their streets for decades, but it was in L.A. where the mobile street food trend caught fire. So, how did the City of Angels become the birthplace of this uniquely social, fun dining experience?
A Korean immigrant and professionally trained chef named Roy Choi deserves some serious props for helping launch the L.A. food truck scene. In 2008, he and a friend came up with the idea of putting Korean barbeque into taco shells, a mouthwatering blend of Korean and Mexican cuisine, and selling them outside L.A. clubs. Thus began the birth of<a href="https://kogibbq.com/"> Kogi</a>, one of L.A.&rsquo;s most successful food trucks to ever hit the streets. Much of Kogi&rsquo;s initial growth was due to a newly developing social media platform &mdash; Twitter. However, one successful solo truck isn&rsquo;t the only reason for the city&rsquo;s massive food truck and mobile catering movement.
In 2010, the first Los Angeles Street Food Fest attracted six times as many people as organizers expected &mdash; 24,000 instead of 4,000! Los Angelenos were ready to embrace the culinary innovation and social opportunities that street food provides. Operating a food truck costs far less than a brick-and-mortar restaurant, allowing talented chefs (many from immigrant families) to blend authentic ethnic family recipes with other cuisines and introduce customers to insanely creative, previously unimagined dishes.
Additionally, eating from a food truck is a highly social activity. We interact with others as we stand in line for food, stroll along a line of trucks deliberating which to try, and eat in communal spaces. Los Angelenos spend a LOT of time in their cars, and traffic jams are no joke here. The street food fad allowed Los Angelenos to finally get out of their vehicles for a change and socialize, furthering mobile vendors&rsquo; popularity. Year-round fantabulous weather doesn&rsquo;t hurt either!

You know you&rsquo;re in for some exquisitely satisfying cuisine in a city called the Farm-to-Fork Capital! Sacramento&rsquo;s proximity to fertile farmland and two large rivers ensures fresh produce does not have to travel far to reach your plate here. Farmers markets are abundant, as are renowned restaurants, craft breweries, wineries &mdash; and trees! Yes, Sacramento also happens to be known by another nickname, the City of Trees. A recent MIT study confirmed that Sacramento has more trees per capita than any other U.S. city and is ranked third globally, behind Vancouver and Singapore. So, what do all these trees mean for Sacramentans? Plenty of shady places and parks to gather and enjoy al fresco dining from our favorite type of kitchen &mdash; roaming ones, aka food trucks!
While Sacramento isn&rsquo;t crawling with food trucks like L.A. or San Francisco, this historical Gold Rush city still offers plenty of street food. The California Gold Rush started here in 1848 when a construction worker discovered gold at Sutter&rsquo;s Mill, about 45 miles east of the city. Nope, we&rsquo;re not making this up &mdash; in March 2014, 121 food trucks rolled through the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, preceding a two-day food truck rally. If that&rsquo;s not impressive enough, Tampa hosted the<a href="https://www.facebook.com/worldslargestfoodtruckrally/"> World&rsquo;s Largest Food Truck Rally</a> multiple times in subsequent years, the last as recently as 2021. Tampa even hosts an<a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/florida-penguins-international-food-truck-festival-20-tickets-513274115697?%20"> International Food Truck Festival</a>, where 80+ trucks serve global cuisine.
The Tampa Bay area encompasses Tampa and the beachfront communities of St. Petersburg, affectionately known as St. Pete, and Clearwater. The Sierra Ridge Community (Chambers Rd &amp; Lincoln Avenue in Parker) is gearing up for the 2023 Food Truck Night Season. This is a community of 900+ homes and 265 apartments. We tend to have really good business and this community is well versed in food trucks.Based on last year’s participant feedback, we are changing things up this year. We will be switching to 2 savory trucks and 1 dessert truck EVERY OTHER WEEK from April 6 to September 21. Last Summer, our trucks averaged $945 per night for savory and $425 per night for dessert to give you an idea of attendance. We expect the $'s to go up this year since we are switching from every week to every other week.You would set-up in the Sierra Ridge Clubhouse parking lot, which is at 10185 Urbana Blvd., Parker from 5 PM - 8 PM. You would receive a reminder email 1 week before the event. And you will receive a follow-up email after the event. You will be expected to provide a rough number for sales, so that we know how trucks are performing.SIGN-UPS: If you are receiving this email directly from Kim Barb / Sierra Ridge, you will be able to sign-up forONE spot per truckin this first wave of sign-ups.
